Job Description: 

  • Q&M Utility Operator
  • Assists with the operation and maintenance of the City’s wastewater plant; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Position Responsibilities:

The principal function of an employee in this class is to assist with the operation and maintenance of the City’s wastewater plant. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisor, other City employees, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in an outdoors environment

 

Help in daily operation duties: Checking septic haulers, doing operator rounds, paperwork, operator lab work, and operator projects.
Cleans, lubricates and performs routine maintenance of plant equipment and facilities, including lubricating and changing fluids on all mechanical equipment; cleaning, maintenance and repair of building and grounds in the area of the treatment plant. Assists in maintaining a sufficient inventory of parts and supplies for the city’s wastewater plant.
Assists in the operation of pumps, valves, and other equipment via computer controller, hand or mechanical means to regulate the flow of wastewater through various primary, secondary and tertiary treatment processes; maintains even flow to ensure maximum efficiency of plant equipment; assists in the inspection of plant equipment and reports any failures or operating difficulties. Reads meters, gauges, and instruments.
Operates a front-end loader to mix biosolids in drying beds and to load the dried biosolids onto trucks; drives a heavy truck on plant grounds to transport biosolids on an as-needed basis.
Assists in dewatering and thickening processes of biosolids.
Under the supervision of a certified Plant Operator, collects water samples and sludge at scheduled time intervals, and conducts tests on samples to determine plant efficiency and compliance with EPA and State regulations.
Under the supervision of a certified Plant Operator, maintains complete and accurate records of plant operation functions, tests, results, and maintenance work performed in accordance with prescribed policies and procedures as required.
Under the supervision of a certified Plant Operator, performs treatment analysis and processes control tests.
Under the supervision of a certified Plant Operator, performs basic maintenance of plant equipment to ensure compliance with established standards, including cleaning, lubricating, and making minor repair as necessary.
Under the supervision of a certified Plant Operator, observes meters, gauges, charts, and instruments, and accurately records all finding accordingly.
Regular Janitorial Duties: Maintains the interior and exterior of the Treatment Plant in a clean and orderly manner to ensure a safe work environment for City employees and the general public, including cleaning buildings.
Attends meetings, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.
Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts managements right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.

  • Pay Rate $15.65
