- Temp-to-hire
- Full-time, 40 hours per week
- Requires work on weekends, evenings, and occasionally holidays

DUTIES:
- Performs routine grounds maintenance to property, pathways, and facilities
- Performs facility, park shelter, playground, restroom, and grounds general site cleanup, janitorial, maintenance, and improvement tasks
- Landscaping duties include mowing, trimming, edging, planting, pruning, weeding, aerating, thatching, raking, sweeping, and snow and ice removal
- Drive City vehicles, hauling trailers and equipment
- Safe, skillful operation of power equipment, power tools, and hand tools
- Perform shelter and grounds reservation preparation and clean up
- Trash collection, disposal, and janitorial duties
- Maintain and prepare fields for athletic events
- Safely apply pesticides, and herbicides, as needed
- Store, stock, and dispose of herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers in a proper manner
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on power equipment, power tools, and hand tools
- Assist with irrigation system and sprinkler repairs
- Maintain pumps and filters for the irrigation system and fountains
- Install banners, signage, and seasonal lighting
- Event set-up and tear-down, as needed
- Applies chemicals/fertilizer to vegetation and sprays for pests
- Maintain sidewalks and pathways, keeping them free from debris and snow
- Monitors supplies inventory and submits to supervisor for re-order.
- Performs preventive maintenance on parks and playground equipment
- Keeps records on tasks performed as directed
- Perform other related projects as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to lift to 60 lbs.
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Working knowledge of irrigation principles and equipment
- Knowledge of calculating chemical/fertilizer rates
- Advanced mechanical repair knowledge and practices
- Pass a background check and drug test
- Able to obtain a Chemical Applicator License within six (6) months of hire
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- General mechanical knowledge e.g., small engine repair, changing oil and filters, basic systems troubleshooting
- Understanding of maintenance practices, e.g., filter and lightbulb replacement, painting, basic plumbing adjustments
- Ability to safely use power tools, e.g., string trimmer, backpack blower, edger, push mower, and hand power tools
- Ability to safely use hand tools, e.g., shovel, screwdriver, saw, hammer, ratchet, and similar tools
- Ability to operate mowing equipment, a pickup truck, and utility vehicles
- Must be available for on-call, holiday, weekend work, and special events
- Ability to operate basic office equipment and computer programs. Specific skill in use of MS Office Suite, particularly Outlook, and department-specific software
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to apply tact and good judgment
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, officials, and co-workers
- Ability to remain calm and professional when interacting with others
- Excellent time management and organizational skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work in awkward positions and walk/work on uneven terrain
- Enough stamina to perform duties for extended periods of time
- Ability to perform a wide range of physical and manual tasks in an outdoor environment under a variety of weather conditions, including heat, snow, and rain to include but not limited to: frequently lifting 40-50 lbs., frequent bending, stooping, twisting, leaning, kneeling, crawling, standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, stairs, and getting in and out of vehicles and various equipment
- Work is performed predominately at parks, on trails, and City-managed facilities.
- The employee will be exposed to all elements: i.e., insects, extreme cold and hot temperatures, snow and rain, wind, and dust.
- Some work is on public roadways, shoulders, bridges, etc., exposing employees to traffic and other hazards associated with moving vehicles
- Ability to see, with or without corrective lenses, well enough to read standard text
- Ability to hear, with or without hearing support devices, well enough to converse on the telephone
- Ability to speak well enough to verbally converse with others; especially on the telephone
- Sufficient manual dexterity to write and operate office machines
