Temporary Administrative Specialist I: City Planning + Zoning $17.00 p/h to start!
- Long-term temporary assignment
- Full-time, day shift
- Monday- Friday, 8 am – 5 pm
- $17.00 p/h to start
DUTIES:
- Performs general reception duties, administrative support, data entry, database management, and entry-level technical work related to land use planning, zoning, code enforcement, and community development activities
- Serves as the first point of contact for the Department; greets and directs visitors and callers, and provides general assistance

- Provides clerical support to Departmental staff, including scheduling, calendar maintenance, and preparation of various documents and reports
- Copies and disburses mail and correspondence to Department staff daily
- Performs various administrative tasks, including data entry, scanning, copying, ordering office supplies, and other similar responsibilities
- Keeps informed of changes in the information, technology, software, and other methods that have the potential to improve Departmental service delivery goals
- Receives and processes cash transactions
- Learns to issue Department-specific registrations, permits, and licenses
- Tracks, monitors, and coordinates service agreements and contracts
- Provides back-up and interdepartmental coverage as needed
- Attends night meetings to take minutes, prepare agendas, and transcribe meeting minutes
- Other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES- REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
- Ability to operate office equipment and computer programs. Specific skill in the use of MS Office Suite, particularly: Word, Outlook, and Excel, and Department-specific software
- Data entry, typing 60 WPM minimum
- Basic research techniques and reporting
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to apply tact and good judgment
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, officials, and co-workers
- Ability to remain calm and professional when interacting with others
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Proficient writing and editing abilities
- Problem-solving
- Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide
- Available to attend evening meetings as well as work evenings & weekends when needed
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year of experience in general office practices and procedures
- Or any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the equivalent necessary for satisfactory job performance
